Strong ARM

If there’s one big question among tech investors, it’s this…

Who is going to be the next Nvidia?

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) struck gold capitalizing off of the generative AI craze with their high-powered H100 processor. The success of this “AI Super Chip” has made semiconductors the hottest sector within all of tech.

This is one of the biggest reasons behind the hype for what many experts called the biggest initial public offering in years.

Arm Holdings (NASDAQ: ARM) went public last week after forty years in the semiconductor business. The British company is best known for its mobile chips, specifically the ones that they have provided for Apple’s iPhones.

After seeing a 19% jump after its first two days of trading, Arm’s price has come back down to earth, now down 5.5% since offering.

Arm is linked to Nvidia through their recent history. The newest member of the Trillion Dollar Club attempted to purchase Arm Holdings from SoftBank for $40 billion in September of 2020. The acquisition was eventually blocked by the Federal Trade Commission.

The company is hoping to slice off a piece of the seemingly enormous AI Pie by expanding out of mobile circuitry. The success of Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) have been despite the weak demand for personal electronic devices.

It’s the explosive growth of the demand for high-powered hardware by data centers that’s driving the entire semiconductor industry. Complicated generative AI programs need banks and banks of high-end processors in order to run.

Arm’s initial success however proves the eagerness of the market to get exposure to this new technology, especially in the form of a well-established name.

With that, let’s take a look at the news stories that I have my eye on…
