Major Trends Impacting Global Supply Chains

For around two years now, global supply chain issues and bottlenecks have been hot button topics in newsrooms, executive meetings, and government briefings across the world.

As you can imagine, a wrench was thrown into the already fragile ecosystem with the Covid-19 pandemic. Companies and governments were forced to adapt to a whole new landscape, and the reverberations can still be felt today.

And there’s no doubt about it, we’re still in the middle of this pandemic. Restrictions have been loosened, but there are still plenty of issues facing our world and its supply chains.

Some experts have predicted that continued disruptions in the short term will include challenges with cargo ships, labor shortages, and supply/demand imbalances.

A survey from the Wall Street Journal found that about 45% of economists believed that it would take until the second half of 2022 before we saw improvement.

But it’s not all doom and gloom...

Improvement across global supply chains can happen by identifying alternate sourcing strategies to reduce dependencies on individual suppliers and increase the resiliency of the overall supply chain.

One of the more pressing challenges facing supply chains is sustainability. Climate change, labor, and material shortages are all pain points that companies are focused on alleviating.

Major companies are looking inward for answers. Naturally, this will increase pressure on their partners to become more socially responsible and help create a more circular economy.

And even with the last two years of issues, technology and accountability are helping to reduce pressure and pave the way toward a more sustainable and responsible world.

However, this type of change doesn’t happen overnight…

This year, companies can put greater focus on using smarter assets across the supply chain, and delivering smarter and more responsible products into the hands of consumers.

So, while we work our way out of a laundry list of global supply chain issues, let’s hope for a productive and innovative 2022.

To a bright future,
