And Now… Monetization

If you browse the internet or watch the news, especially if you read Technology Profits Daily, it’s almost certain you’ve heard about ChatGPT.

The AI chatbot has grown massively in popularity and internet buzz thanks to its incredible ability to generate human-like text based on input provided to it.

The company behind it, OpenAI, has some pretty big tech names backing it too.

For starters, Elon Musk is one of the company’s founders.

Additionally, Microsoft put up an initial investment of $1 billion and followed that up a few years later with an even bigger investment of $10 billion.

Needless to say, it’s more than internet buzz backing this company and service right now.

And it makes sense too… Overall, ChatGPT is part of a growing field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and is considered to be one of the most advanced language models currently available.

Still, growth requires capital and that’s where OpenAI has set its sights with its latest endeavor.

Part of ChatGPT’s massive popularity can be attributed to the fact that it’s completely free at the moment.

Anybody with an email address can go to the website, make an account, and start using it.

And while the service looks to remain free for most users, OpenAI will soon be launching a paid subscription version of its chatbot.

Want The Latest Features? Pay Up

As I just mentioned, OpenAI will be launching a paid subscription service for ChatGPT.

From the company’s website, the subscription service will be as follows:

“The new subscription plan, ChatGPT Plus, will be available for $20/month, and subscribers will receive a number of benefits:

  • General access to ChatGPT, even during peak times
  • Faster response times
  • Priority access to new features and improvements”

One of the selling points for this new service appears to be the level of access a subscriber would get to ChatGPT.

If you’ve tried using ChatGPT at almost any point since its launch, you’ve likely run into a situation where you weren’t able to access the service.

The reason for this comes from the high volume of users, the website will reach capacity at certain times throughout the day.

It can certainly be annoying if you’re trying to use ChatGPT only to get turned away by the max capacity notice.

Then, the faster response time for paid users is pretty straightforward…

Whenever you send a prompt in, the language model will take a few seconds to a few minutes to formulate its response to you.

Although, in my experience, the wait time for a response has never been so bad that I thought I’d be willing to pay money to cut down on waiting time.

Finally, the last promise is the most interesting to me.

“Priority access to new features and improvements.”

Depending on what the new and improved features are, this could make the whole subscription service worth it for a lot of users.

ChatGPT is already packed with a massive amount of features, I’d be very interested to see what else the service becomes capable of as the company grows and improves its technology.

Even with the new paid service launching soon, OpenAI maintains that ChatGPT will stay free for anyone to use.

In fact, the company has stated that the subscription service will help support free access for the chatbot.

OpenAI is said to also be exploring lower-cost plans and business plans that have yet to be announced.

With the number of businesses announcing the use of ChatGPT in day-to-day processes, a set of business plans could prove to be extremely lucrative for OpenAI.

Still, there are plenty of issues to be ironed out before ChatGPT is fully ready to be used reliably for business purposes.

But with monetization comes growth and improvements, so I have high hopes that this will only push the AI tech race further into the future.

Now, I’d like to hear from you… Have you used ChatGPT? Do you use it frequently? Would you pay $20 a month for better access and more features?
