Various products that you use around the home can be replaced with a more environmentally-conscientious version and, in most cases, do a better job. Here are some examples of some eco-tech items and accessories that will style your home, save you money, and help you do more for the planet.
Save Money with Eco Tech
Ecotechnology, or eco-tech, takes the discipline of applied science and uses technology to deal with environmental concerns or makes technology more economically friendly. Ultimately, it seeks to fulfill human technological needs while causing the least amount of ecological disruption.
Nowadays, humans live in relative luxury where technology is rapidly improving, and we have all the energy we want. Unfortunately, this has a negative impact on the world as the resources we use and the products we leave behind is damaging our world.
For many, eco-tech represents our best hope for becoming more sustainable and redesigning our lives. We need to revolutionize the way we live, from our daily commute to how we eat, work, shop, and heat our homes.
The production of green technology offers us a chance to mitigate our modern-day lives’ environmental effects with ease. It might be too late to turn back the clock, but we can limit further destruction of the environment, and we don’t need to give up our creature comforts or conveniences; persuading people to do so is likely futile.
Our greedy appetite for innovation and advancement got us where we are, so let’s enlist it to make improvements as well. Enter eco-tech.
There are plenty of eco-tech ideas to help us live ecologically smarter lives and make more informed choices.
Cut down on energy costs by switching to smart lights. Because they use LED or CFL bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs, they reduce electricity consumption, sometimes by up to 90 percent less energy than a traditional bulb. They also have a longer life span, which means less waste.
In 2019 the smart lighting market was valued at $14.2 billion and was expected to reach $58.6 billion by 2025. The industry is ever-changing and evolving new eco-tech. Even GE’s 129-year-old lighting division was acquired by Savant Systems on July 1, 2020, for an undisclosed amount.
Solar companies come from various sectors like energy, industrial, and utilities, and include popular stocks such as SunPower Corp. (SPWR) and First Solar Inc. (FSLR).
But solar tech isn’t all about the big energy companies. Newer eco-tech is innovating new products for the home. For example:
Solar-powered speakers take advantage of the sun’s power without breaking the bank. Most have 15+ hours of battery life and can even charge other devices like smartphones or tablets.
Portable solar chargers like foldable solar charging panels and solar power banks are becoming extremely popular. These are handy not just for the garden or out and about, but they can also charge all your devices without running up your home energy bill.
Apps for Anything Eco Tech
“There’s an app for that…” If you can think of a way to help you go green, there’s likely already an app that can help you. For example:
The Seafood Watch app helps businesses and consumers to consume the most ecologically sound seafood that benefits oceans, for example, by ranking restaurants that sell the most sustainable seafood.
If you’re looking to cut your carbon footprint, the GoGreen app helps measure emissions from electricity and gas consumption. It helps identify trends in your energy consumption so you can take steps to reduce your carbon footprint.
These ideas are just the tip of the iceberg. Many companies are starting to capitalize on the green revolution, from large multinational projects to local grassroots startups. Long may they continue to make the world a better place for all…and save us money.
